We are recruiting Trainee Field Technicians to join a growing team working across the Thames Valley (Reading) region. No previous leak detection experience is required — full training and ongoing support will be provided.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working outdoors, is practical and reliable, and wants to develop a specialist skillset within the utilities sector.

The Role

As a Trainee Field Technician, you will support the detection and investigation of leaks within underground water networks. You’ll work alongside experienced technicians and repair teams to help reduce water loss and maintain essential infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with surveys to identify water leaks and underground network issues
  • Support leak detection and repair teams on-site
  • Carry out field-based project and survey work
  • Accurately complete paperwork, reports, and digital records
  • Upload survey data using handheld devices or laptops
  • Travel across the Kent area as part of your daily duties

Successful candidates will receive full industry training, including:

  • EUSR Water Hygiene
  • Unit 2 Street Works
  • Leak detection equipment and survey techniques
  • Health & Safety procedures

Essential Requirements

  • Full UK driving licence
  • Good communication skills
  • Basic IT/computer skills
  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Reliable and proactive attitude

Working Hours

  • Core hours are 7:30am – 4pm though shift patterns can vary from 6am – 2:30pm or 6:30am- 3pm. 40 hours per week.

Contract
This is initially a temporary position with the potential for extension or permanent opportunities for the right candidate.
